requently Asked Questions (FAQ) that has been put together to answer your questions about Timeshare Donations.

I AM CONSIDERING DONATING MY TIMESHARE PROPERTY.  WHAT KIND OF PROPERTIES DO YOU ACCEPT?

  • Community Housing and Development Corp.accepts properties that are owned free and clear and where the maintenance fees are not past due.  We accept both deeded and right-to-use timeshares. Community Housing and Development Corp. will  perform a review of the offered timeshare to make sure that it will work with our program.  We will always attempt get back to the potential donor within 48 hours of receiving the timeshare information sheet.

 

HOW LONG DOES THE DONATION PROCESS TAKE?

  •   The normal timeframe to complete the transfer of ownership is normally seven days.

 

WHO HANDLES THE PAPERWORK?

  •   Community Housing and Development Corp. will take care of the transfer of the ownership and prepare the required deeds and other documents. 

 

WILL I GET A TAX RECEIPT TO SUPPORT MY DONATION?

  •   Upon the completion of the transfer, you will receive a tax receipt letter from the Community Housing and Development Corp. to support your tax deductible donation. Community Housing and Development Corp. is a 501(C) (3) publicly supported charity as determined by the IRS.

 

HOW CAN I DETERMINE HOW MUCH OF A TAX DEDUCTION I CAN TAKE FOR MY TIMESHARE DONATION?

  •   As with most non-cash donated items the IRS allows you to deduct up to $5,000 fair market value without requiring a certified appraisal.  Over $5,000 the taxpayer must provide a certified appraisal.  In some cases your fair market value will be less than your original purchase price.  As the donor is responsible for determining the fair market value for their donation, it is suggested that you utilize websites such as the TRI Timeshare bluebook to appropriately value your unit.
